Life as a volunteer in the project
During your project time, you will live in one of our volunteer accommodations. Here you will live with other enthusiastic travelers and come into contact with like-minded young people. After your project, you can spend your free time together and explore the area. Depending on the project, you will also have an English or German-speaking contact person on site who you can turn to at any time. In addition to the freshly cooked meals that you will receive daily at your accommodation, you can also get lots of insider tips here. Our “locals” know exactly which restaurants are worth a visit or which providers offer the best tours and are always happy to share their knowledge and experience. Our various supervisors are very well connected, which makes it possible to combine projects. We are always there for you to coordinate and support you in planning your trip. So let’s go to the tropical island paradise!
Travel to Sri Lanka
To enter Sri Lanka, you need a tourist visa for either 30 or 180 days. We recommend the 6-month visa as it allows you to be more flexible and is no more expensive than the 30-day visa. You can get it on-arrival at the airport in Colombo or apply online. We will of course provide you with all the information you need.
There are no compulsory vaccinations required to enter the country. However, in individual cases and depending on the project, this may be advisable; we will be happy to advise you individually.
As soon as you land in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, one of our drivers will pick you up and take you directly to your accommodation. You will be greeted and shown around briefly. You are welcome to take a few days to settle in and then start your project with full vigor.
Leisure options in Sir Lanka
Sri Lanka is an incredibly diverse country and offers you plenty of opportunities to spend your free time. The south coast is known for its beautiful beaches and bays and countless surf spots, whether for beginners or advanced surfers. There are many small alleyways, cafés, bars and restaurants whose charm you simply cannot resist. Cooking courses or day tours are offered in many places. In addition, you can hardly get enough of the beautiful nature and Sri Lanka is a well-known starting point for dolphin and whale watching. Turtles can be observed on many beaches and you can even go snorkeling with them. One of the biggest advantages is the relatively short distances; the landscape often looks completely different after just a one-hour bus ride. All of our projects are located directly on the coast, but a weekend trip inland with its wonderful mountain ranges and waterfalls is also worthwhile. There are also numerous national parks where you can encounter some of the “Big 5” animals. Elephants in particular are the order of the day here and you can look forward to learning a lot about these fascinating animals.

All programs can be booked with friends. If you would like to book a program as a group, we recommend that you enquire in advance. Each person must book the project individually.
Ideal for all programs are at least three months in advance. In principle it is also possible for us to place short-term applicants (volunteering and language study travel) in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is a safe country and the people are very friendly and warmhearted. In big cities, as in every big city in the world, there is petty crime. When travelling, the following things should be taken into account: always keep an eye on valuables, always keep your hand luggage on your lap in buses, and at night you should not travel by bus or withdraw money from ATMs. Up-to-date information on the situation can be found at the Embassy or Foreign Office.
Please note that in Sri Lanka all electronic devices can only be used with an adapter. They are available in many electronics stores.
We recommend that you have a good command of English.
Depending on the program, we work with host families in the vicinity or there are volunteer houses at the project site.
For all programs you have to be covered by foreign health insurance. We will be happy to help you find a suitable insurance policy.
During the language school and in the volunteering projects, you will always have a direct contact person to help you with any problems. Of course you can also always contact us.
