Description
Kindergartens and nurseries greatly appreciate your support. Get a taste of the life of a caregiver and help out on-site. Our projects are mostly located in smaller towns, as this is where help is needed the most. Be prepared for lots of culture and a simple way of life. Your tasks can vary greatly. During your time in Guatemala, you will be working in a kindergarten, nursery, or school. Social volunteering in Guatemala can be done in the city or by the beach, depending on your goals. Each project is unique in its own way.
In kindergartens or nurseries, you will be caring for the children, playing with them, helping with crafts, changing, feeding, brushing teeth, and contributing ideas. Local staff members are excited for your support and fresh ideas.
During your time at the project, you will be staying with a host family. It is important, especially when working with children, that you have a good grasp of Spanish before starting. Native speakers have the option to join this project without attending a language school. If you have no or limited Spanish knowledge, you can either take an online language course beforehand or attend a language course with us in Costa Rica. This way, you can combine two countries optimally.

Living arrangements
Accommodation and meals on site
During your project, you will live with a “tico” host family. You will receive two typical local meals per day. You can reach many projects within 10 minutes on foot or by bus. Our host families are carefully selected and already have experience with travelers from all over the world.
Typical day in a project
Volunteering on site – typical day at the project:
Volunteers spend their time caring for babies and young children, helping with meals, brushing teeth, playing with them and reading books to them. Volunteers also support the staff when needed. As a volunteer, you will work between 4-7 hours per day from Monday to Friday. A typical working day:

8.00 a.m. Start of the volunteer service

All programs can be booked with friends. If you would like to book a program as a group, we recommend that you enquire in advance. Each person must book the project individually.
Ideal for all programs are at least three months in advance. In principle it is also possible for us to place short-term applicants (volunteering and language study travel) in Costa Rica.
Guatemala is a safe country and the people are very friendly and warmhearted. In big cities, as in every big city in the world, there is petty crime. When travelling, the following things should be taken into account: always keep an eye on valuables, always keep your hand luggage on your lap in buses, and at night you should not travel by bus or withdraw money from ATMs. Up-to-date information on the situation can be found at the Embassy or Foreign Office.
Please note that in Guatemala all electronic devices can only be used with an adapter. They are available in many electronics stores.
In principle, no language course is mandatory in advance. However, depending on the volunteering program, certain levels of the language of your destination country may be required to complete the project. We would be happy to advise you individually on your chosen project.
Depending on the program, we work with host families in the vicinity or there are volunteer houses at the project site.
For all programs you have to be covered by foreign health insurance. We will be happy to help you find a suitable insurance policy.
During the language school and in the volunteering projects, you will always have a direct contact person to help you with any problems. Of course you can also always contact us.
