Description
You can expect an extensive area that is divided into different areas and therefore packs. These are home to the so-called residents, who would not survive without help due to health problems. There are also the young dogs, who are bursting with energy and are always happy to receive attention and a few extra play sessions. In addition to the intensive care of the small puppies, you will also help with feeding, preparing food and cleaning the enclosures. If you are interested, you can of course also take a look at the operating theater and learn more about veterinary medicine. The clinic is also home to several hoofed animals that you can visit. So there is definitely plenty of variety!
- The daily feeding tour, on which you get to know a lot of the surrounding area and provide street dogs in the surrounding villages with food
- The culture, helpfulness and commitment of the people and a great and professional team
- A spacious single room close to the clinic and a beach within walking distance

Living arrangements
In our volunteer accommodation you will be accommodated in a modern, spacious private room with adjoining bathroom. The price includes lunch on working days in the project and there is a new kitchen, equipped with a fridge where you can store your food, a gas stove and an oven. A store for everyday shopping is within walking distance, as is a bus stop and the beach. Also included is a TukTuk tour at the beginning of your stay, on which you explore the area and make a stop at all the sights in the area. Even though the project is in a rather quiet location, the famous tourist town of Unwatuna can be reached by bus in under 15 minutes and offers everything your heart desires with its many cute cafés, bars and restaurants. You will meet many other backpackers, there are countless leisure activities such as boat tours, surfing and a lively nightlife. The bus system in Sri Lanka works quite reliably, a bus runs along the entire south coast every 10 minutes or so and you can practically get on and off as you please – and for less than 40 cents.

Typical day in a project
The exact nature of your tasks will depend on your interests and the current needs of the team. The exact division of work is always discussed with the whole team on site at the beginning of the week. In general, there are different shifts, each of which is 7 hours long. You will receive a freshly prepared lunch on your working days. In general, there is an early shift from 6 am to 1 pm, a late shift from 2 pm to 9 pm and the shift that takes over the feeding round. In this case, you work from 11 am to 6 pm. At lunchtime, you eat together with everyone else in the project either before the start of your late shift or after the early shift. Apart from that, you have the flexibility to take shorter breaks during your working hours. Help is always needed with cleaning the runs, feeding and looking after the dogs after an operation. In addition, our volunteers usually spend a lot of time with the puppies, playing with them and giving them cuddles, because animals need love and attention as much as they need food. You also have the opportunity to go on a feeding tour with our staff, which is a special highlight because you get to care for so many street animals and get to know the environment in a special way.
This is what a typical day on the early shift might look like:
05:30: Breakfast in the accommodation
06:00: Help with cleaning the intensive care unit
07:00: Looking after the puppies
08:00: Morning meeting with the entire team
08:30: Departure for the feeding tour (beach tour)11:30: Help with the care of the dogs or food preparation13:00: Lunch
13:30: Free time for the rest of the day, for example a trip to Unawatuna or a walk to the beach

FAQ
FAQ
All programs can be booked with friends. If you would like to book a program as a group, we recommend that you enquire in advance. Each person must book the project individually.
Ideal for all programs are at least three months in advance. In principle it is also possible for us to place short-term applicants (volunteering and language study travel) in Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka is a safe country and the people are very friendly and warmhearted. In big cities, as in every big city in the world, there is petty crime. When travelling, the following things should be taken into account: always keep an eye on valuables, always keep your hand luggage on your lap in buses, and at night you should not travel by bus or withdraw money from ATMs. Up-to-date information on the situation can be found at the Embassy or Foreign Office.
Please note that in Sri Lanka all electronic devices can only be used with an adapter. They are available in many electronics stores.
We recommend that you have a good command of English.
Depending on the program, we work with host families in the vicinity or there are volunteer houses at the project site.
For all programs you have to be covered by foreign health insurance. We will be happy to help you find a suitable insurance policy.
During the language school and in the volunteering projects, you will always have a direct contact person to help you with any problems. Of course you can also always contact us.
Application process for a volunteering program

Make your deposit to secure a place for your project - you are welcome to contact us in advance to make sure there is still a place available for this period.

You will receive an information package with the confirmation e-mail and have a fixed contact person for questions.
We plan your journey and help you with your travel arrangements.
Let´s start - be ready! we will contact you again and you will receive final information about 3 weeks before the start.
