Wildlife Sanctuary in South Africa
Duration of stay: at least 2 weeks, up to 3 months possible
Start of project: every Monday
Location: Hartbeespoort, Johannesburg
The project is located 45 minutes from Johannesburg in the North West Province. It encompasses 750 hectares (approx. 1,850 acres) and is part of the country’s World Cultural Heritage. The unique ecosystem is in harmony with the people. This project harbors ill, abandoned and injured animals which gain a “safe harbor” with your help. Because of a restaurant with adjacent rooms, the project offers the opportunity to host weddings and conferences. Through this, the project receives financial support and the people receive information about the animals’ protection. Activities for tourists are offered in the area, such as hiking with elephants to make them aware of the protection and preservation of the nature and the animals.
As a volunteer you will help working with the animals, going on hikes and walks with the elephants and working on the field.
During your stay in the project you will be living in a volunteer home with the other participants.
Application for the project:
- basic knowledge of the English language
- basic computer skills
- important information (e.g. allergies, what you can’t eat)
